I'm David Braun, a veteran mortgage loan officer, published mortgage author, podcaster, YouTube creator, and the voice behind Mortgage Maniac.
My mortgage career began in 1997 in the Chicago metropolitan area. Since then, I have experienced economic expansions, housing downturns, historic interest-rate changes, evolving underwriting standards, and the transformation of mortgage lending through technology.
Today, I'm taking everything I've learned and turning that experience into an educational platform designed to help homebuyers understand mortgage financing before they ever complete an application.
I don't just talk about mortgages. I've built a career navigating the mortgage market through multiple economic cycles.

1997 | Harris Bank
My journey began at Harris Bank in Westchester, Illinois, where I entered the mortgage industry and earned Rookie of the Year recognition.
2001 | Founding Braun Financial
I founded Braun Financial, an independent mortgage brokerage business. Through our work, we generated approximately $180 million in mortgage business.
2008 and Beyond | Navigating Market Change
The housing crisis changed mortgage lending forever. I experienced firsthand how lending guidelines, borrower qualifications, documentation requirements, and market conditions could transform the homebuying process.
My Career Across Major Lending Institutions
Throughout my career, I've gained experience working with financial institutions and mortgage companies including Bank of America, U.S. Bank, PNC, Wells Fargo, Sun West Mortgage, Focus Mortgage, and Regional Mortgage Corporation.

Today, my focus extends beyond originating mortgages. I'm building a digital education platform combining mortgage books, articles, video, podcasting, and interactive homebuyer resources.
